Dorothy Ostrander

Ostrander, age 97, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Ethan W. Ostrander.A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Watertown. The celebrant will be Fr. Michael Wensing. Music will be provided by Becky Lubbers accompanied by Jane Rokusek. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service.Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel of Watertown.Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be: Mark Ostrander, Ann Evans, Andy Ostrander, Michele Priebe, Mitchell Hess, Michael Hess, Matthew Hess, Abigail Ostrander, Estella Ostrander, Heath Ham and Megan Wernli.Dorothy was born on June 26, 1920, at Watertown, SD, to Peter and Louise (Dummer) Lindner. She was born and raised in Codington County, SD, and attended rural schools.On October 10, 1940, Dorothy married Ethan Ostrander at Waverly, SD. To this union, five children were born. She lived and worked with her husband and family on the farm until moving into Watertown in 2000. Ethan preceded her in death on September 7th of that year. Dorothy continued to make Watertown her home.She and Ethan were founding members of Holy Name Catholic Church. Dorothy was a ‘Master Gardener’, a member of the Fairview Birthday Club and was a 4-H Leader for several years. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting.Dorothy is survived by four children: Richard E. Ostrander of Gladstone, MI, MaryLou Hess-Griepp (Paul) of Watertown, Daniel S. (Cynthia T.) Ostrander of Mina, SD, and Geralyn Ostrander Ham of Wapato, WA; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Clifford Lindner of Watertown and Darrell Lindner of Sioux Falls, SD; and one sister, Leona Cordell, of Eugene, OR.She was preceded in death by her husband, Ethan; one infant son, Gregory; two infant great-grandsons, Noah and S...
